Family Photography
I’m going to be completely honest with you, so I don’t waste your time.
Choosing the right photographer for your family really matters — and I’ll be honest, I’m not the right fit for everyone.
If you love posed, studio-style portraits and perfectly directed smiles, I might not be your person.
But if your happiest days are spent outdoors — salty hair at the beach, muddy boots on the moors, — then you’re very much in the right place.
You love watching your children grow, even while wishing time would slow down. You know these days won’t last forever.
The idea of a family photoshoot might make you cringe slightly… yet you also know that thousands of iPhone photos from days out won’t quite capture how this time of life feels.
I photograph outdoors-loving families in places that matter to them. We spend an hour or so somewhere you love, doing what you naturally do, while I quietly capture the connection, laughter and love between you.
No studios. No awkward poses. No forced smiles.
Just real life, fresh air, and beautiful images you’ll want to hang on your walls and treasure for years to come.
“Keep up the good work Fiona, you are giving a lot of pleasure and memories that can be re visited and wonderfully appreciated through the years!”
What does a photoshoot with me involve?
I want you to have a fun and relaxed experience that allows you to be yourselves.
Posing is kept to an absolute minimum and even then I will never tell you to ‘stand there, put your hand here, say ‘cheese’ - I promise! The more fun you all have, the more natural your pictures will be. Be yourselves and you’ll love the results.
Play games, explore, search for frogs, throw leaves, build sandcastles, paddle.
Just be you as a family and I’ll embrace the individuality (who said chaos?) as I truly believe that’s when the uniqueness of your family appears and the results will be unique family pictures of you all.

You can (mostly) choose. I have a list of great options if you want some recommendations but am always delighted to discover new places. I provide a guide to locations in the Client Area but we can chat about your preferences and requirements and come up with some beautiful options. Or your garden is always a good one.

We can’t go to places that you need to pay to get into (unless you have a special arrangement with them). For example, National Trust venues are not feasible unfortunately. I generally recommend we meet early to go to anywhere that gets busy, just so we don’t have lots of interruptions. Devon’s a big and beautiful county so there are 100s of wonderful and accessible options.

Hey, it happens! Generally speaking, the more stressed the parents get, the more likely the kids are to melt down, so just relax and go with it. Sometimes all they need is a snack break and a distraction, but if all the adults are chilled, the kids will generally follow that lead. I can read the room, so if it’s the camera that’s bothering them, we’ll just stop for a bit and I can be discreet. My shoots aren’t full of instructions and posing so more often than not, we’ll be playing games and being silly. Whatever happens, I’ve seen it all before so nothing phases me and besides, the best shots can come from cuddles and gentle interactions.

I always try to schedule in a back up date when we arrange the shoot and in the week leading up to the date, I’ll keep an eye on the forecast. If it’s not looking good, we can postpone to the back up date. It’s worth noting though, that we don’t need perfect blue sky for a shoot. In fact, that’s not great for photos are it can be very bright. Overcast weather is a portrait photographer’s friend. Just dress appropriately.

Yes please! I love dogs and so am always delighted when they come along. They are part of the family after all. The only restriction is if they aren’t allowed at the location.
